Studio Notes 1: Getting Rowdy

First week in the trenches gone by!

Feels good to get my thoughts out like this. No big reveals or anything, just getting the creative juices going.

The main thing I’ve been trying to go for this week is to get something a little more uptempo. A lot of what has been coming out of me the past couple months has been a little slower… For some reason I’ve always struggled with liking the stuff I write that moves faster. As a result, I’ve ended up with a couple of snippets here to listen to. I kept tripping up on myself though! With 110525 I wanted to play with changing rhythms and how to build intrigue out of that I think 130525 sounds a little like another one I’ve done, but just with a little more complexity. Love the sound of a phaser running into an echo, and how the harmonics start stacking on one another. I do think the guitar on the back of 110525 is a little grating though, so that’ll be something I work on.

Spent the back half of the week messing with lyrics to some older stuff, and listening to older demos to see if there’s some gold hiding there. Next week will see some more video content going up on socials, getting ready to push back into that world a little bit more. Wouldn’t mind exploring a little bit more synthesis in my music, although we may not use it live, I think for recordings it adds some needed body to my stuff. Played a little with it on See Me Through and I think it really works.
